Wednesday 4th October marked the official opening of the new Robinia Castle and playground at Robertson Park in Renfrewshire. Opened by Cllr Cathy McEwan, Robertson Park has been upgraded with a worldwide 1st KOMPAN Robinia castle and lots of play equipment to bring greater play value to the area.
KOMPAN, a leading play and fitness equipment provider for local authorities, housebuilders and the leisure industry won the tender to enhance the area through landscape design and play equipment. Renfrewshire council wanted to provide a unique destination playground for the local residents and visitors to the Renfrew area, which catered for all ages and abilities. The play space draws inspiration from the local surrounding area providing a fun and educational experience. KOMPAN’s design features a great use of space organisation, modern landscape principles and an exciting array of play equipment.
Commenting on the design and equipment, Colin Griffin, Commercial Director of KOMPAN Scotland said, “we wanted to give children an inspirational play park, very different to more traditional playgrounds by providing our large themed Robinia units. Our Robinia wood castles are based on Scottish Castles so it only seemed fitting that Scotland should be the 1st to experience these castles, making this is a rather special play area.”
Made from robinia wood, one of the hardest and most durable woods available, these castles are not only aesthetically pleasing but extremely robust and hard wearing. Each castle is unique, designed by the KOMPAN design studio to cater to their clients’ needs. Handmade by talented staff, these units are thoroughly checked before leaving the factory ensuring KOMPAN live up to the highest safety standards globally. This particular unit comprises of several climbing and balancing challenges with the option of a slide, banister bars or fireman’s pole to quickly return to the ground.
Within this castle children can immerse themselves in a world of imaginative and themed role play, with multiple features and access points; children not only improve on their physical skills but their fine motor and social skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity, verbal communication, empathy and cooperation. All KOMPAN products bear the fruits of scientific research and knowledge of child development anchored in the internationally recognized KOMPAN Play Institute
Like most areas, Renfrew is still growing. With a few new build developments in the local area, the play area upgrade at Robertson Park was much needed to cater for the growing neighbourhood’s needs.
Designed to be inclusive and fun, as well as physically and mentally challenging, this new play area, combined with the existing facilities, will draw children and adults from near and far, creating a destination play area which is safe, attractive and original.
