The Department of Architecture is part of the renowned Faculty of Engineering within the University of Strathclyde. Our vision is to be ‘a leading-edge centre for research in architecture and urban design; one in which design and creativity, technology, environment and society and innovation and entrepreneurship are central to the transformation of individuals, practices, communities, cities and nations’. This vision reflects the diverse multidisciplinary basis of architecture and urbanism, with an emphasis on social engagement with real-world problems and placing emphasis on the opportunities those challenges create. We have developed strong links with industry, numerous European and international connections, and a capability to undertake trans-disciplinary research that integrates sustainable design, engineering & technology, and cultural enquiry from local, regional, and global perspectives.
The research is undertaken within two research centres: Centre for Urbanism & Global Cities and Centre for Sustainability and the Built Environment. We offer BSc, Post Graduate and Masters accredited courses in Architecture and Advanced Architectural Design and MSc courses in Architectural Design for the Conservation of Built Heritage, Sustainable Engineering: Architecture & Ecology, and Urban Design.
