Ingval Maxwell spent his 40-year professional career in the conservation of Scotland’s built heritage, until retirement in 2008 as Historic Scotland’s “Director, Technical Conservation, Research and Education Division”.
He represented the UK in the EC’s “COST Action C5: Urban Heritage, Building Maintenance”, and was Initiator and Chairman of the 22 participating country ESF “COST Action C17: Built Heritage: Fire Loss to Historic Buildings”.
He has been Chairman of the EC FP7 “EU Cultural Heritage Identity Card Advisory Committee”; Independent EC Expert in the evaluation of “FP7 Research Proposals”; a “World Heritage Site Expert” for ICOMOS/UNESCO; Expert Assessor in the Italian “Valutazione della Qualità della Ricerca” Review Programme; Trustee and Chairman of the “Charles Wallace India Trust”; Director of “CyArk Europe”; and is an Honorary Member of the “ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Stone”.
He sat on the “AHRC/EPSRC Science and Heritage Advisory Group”; and currently sits on the “RIBA Conservation Accreditation Steering Group”; the “Historic Environment Forum: Heritage Skills Task Group”; the “Journal of Architectural Conservation Editorial Advisory Board”; and the “Learn Direct and Build Board”. He is also Chairman of the “Council on Training in Architectural Conservation” and Vice Chair of the UK’s “BIM4Heritage” Group.
