A449 Architects. Based in Edinburgh we have a proven track record of delivering high profile refurbishment, extension and new build projects on numerous challenging sites across Scotland. As a chartered practice we also have best practice quality management, health and safety, employment, environmental and equality and diversity policies in place. All Architects within the practice are regulated by the ARB (Architects Registration Board). This ensures we maintain consistently high standards as we carry out our role of interpreting and improving how people interact with buildings and spaces. We have the experience and resources to offer a professional service you would expect from architects recognized as one of the best emerging practices in Britain.

Our work features regularly in design publications, most recently in the Architectural Review. Published since 1896 and with a global circulation, the AR is recognised as the leading authority on contemporary architecture in the world.

We have been finalists in national design competitions including the 2014 EAA Building of the Year Awards. In 2015 we were double award winners, collecting an RIAS Award and also a Saltire Society Housing Design Award for our Rosefield project, which was also shor tlisted for the prestigious RIAS Andrew Doolan Award. 2016 also saw further success with our Blakeburn project winning a 2016 Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) award, an FSC forestry commission award, a Scottish Borders Council design award together with a Saltire Society Housing Design Award.

We are also shor tlisted again for the RIAS Andrew Doolan award. The prestigious 2016 Saltire Medal for excellence in housing design was also awarded to our practice. We are particularly proud of this as the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards have been rewarding and advocating innovation and excellence in Scottish house building and place-making for longer than any other design awards in Scotland. 2017 saw our Edinburgh Road project (see above) win our third RIAS award in as many years, with the building also making the longlist for the RIBA House of the Year. The year ended with a prime time television appearance for the project on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. We have built on this and currently have projects across Scotland, in the Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Inverness, Edinburgh, Lothians and the Scottish Borders, together with projects in Cheshire and more recently Finland.

We would welcome the opportunity to hear more about your project so please follow us @A449LTD or visit

Anderson + Christie Bell

We are award winning Architects working across Scotland, with a focus on community and sustainability.

Our goal is to create work that is honest; solutions that are exploratory, educational and inspirational. Research that adds value and inspires change. Architecture that is conceptually interesting and visually stunning. We design with the belief that process and collaboration are as valuable as the end result.

In addition to a well-designed space, we believe passionately in community, participation and sustainability. We aspire for design that enriches people's lives, and looks to organically balance quality, value and creativity.

We believe architecture has the power to do more than just build, it can make a difference by altering perceptions, emotions and lives for the better. That is what we strive to be a part off. It’s who we are.
